Learn How to Set Up Separate User Accounts in Windows 10

Creating separate user accounts on a system is one of the best ways to let many people share one system effortlessly, in a small organization or at home. If you are not the single person to use your Windows 10 system, then creating separate user accounts is really helpful for you. With separate user accounts, the productivity of a system will increase without losing the privacy.

To keep everyone’s data and settings separate, you just need to set up separate user accounts for everybody else. So, each user can have a separate user account in Windows 10 with unique settings and preferences like a screen saver, theme, or wallpaper. To do so, you need to have admin privileges to create new user accounts, because an administrator has the authority to control security and the applications that means; user account holders can access only those applications that the administrator wants.

After following these below mentioned guidelines, you can easily create multiple separate user accounts as well as manage them with admin privileges. So, just follow the steps, which are listed below to create separate user accounts.

1. Open the user account settings

With Windows 10, Microsoft wants to use a Microsoft’s account. So, just login with your account details, and then go to the ‘Start Menu’ and select the ‘Settings’. Next, click on the ‘Accounts’ and then choose ‘Family and other users’.

2. Understand the new account options

With Microsoft account, you can easily add more users as Your family that includes the option to add a family member account with parental control settings. If you are accessing Windows 10 with a local account, then you will get a message, which is saying ‘We couldn’t connect to Microsoft family right now…’ and the option to ‘Add a family member’ would not work. To access this feature, you need to log in with a genuine Microsoft account.

3. Add a New Child or Adult Account

Well, if you use a Microsoft user account and want to add a family member, simply click the ‘Add a family member’ option, and then select an option between ‘Add a child’ and ‘Adult’ account.

Here, you will have to provide an email address of the new account user. If you don’t have that one, then click on ‘The person who I want to add doesn’t have an email address’ link. After selecting this option, you can create an email address. With the step 7, you can know the way to add a new account without an email address.

4. Enter the new account details

Type the account details on the screen. Even, you can make a new @outlook.com Microsoft account by simply entering the name in the box, or click on the ‘Use their email address instead’ option to use an existing non-Microsoft user account email address.

In addition, you will need to make a strong password for the new account.

5. Opt out of advertising

Now, click on the ‘Next’ button and unmark both boxes to opt out of Microsoft advertising.

6. Manage family member accounts

Once a family member user account has been added to Windows 10 device, then there is no other way to manage new user account within the OS. Instead, you will have to sign in at https://account.microsoft.com/family, where you will get parental control settings for a child user account.

7. Add a new account without an email address

To do so, first go to the ‘Start’ and select the ‘Settings’ option. Next, choose ‘Accounts’ option and click on the ‘Family & other users’. After that, click on the ‘Add someone else to this PC’ option.

Next, you will get an option, which is saying ‘The person who I want to add doesn’t have an email address’ at the bottom of the present screen. Now, click on the ‘Add a user without a Microsoft account’ option. With this option, you cannot use the parental controls for these kinds of accounts.

8. Switch between Administrator and Standard accounts

By default, the different types of new user accounts are created as the standard accounts. For Windows 10 security, it is the best arrangement, but one can change the types of accounts by clicking the account name in the list.

To do so, open the ‘Start Menu’ and select the ‘Settings’ option. Next, go to the ‘Accounts’ and click on the ‘Family & other users’ option. After that, you can change the types of accounts by clicking on the ‘Change account type’ button.
